Nightmares, Pricing, and rambling

Haven’t blogged since February. Shit.

So, The Nightmare Before Lloyd is releasing on the 23rd of July, which I’m very excited about. I can’t speak to how it will be received, but so far, it’s one of my favourites. It’s the first time I’ve truly opened up the “cast” and taken a crack at an ensemble—as much as one can, narrating in first person—and I think it turned out pretty damn neat. It’s full of my attempt at humour and some genuinely scary shit, blended together in what I hope is a highly engaging format.

It also may be a return to “form”, as while I’m happy with book 3, it definitely fell on the “different” side. It was, at its heart, a story about Lloyd and Miri, and their growing relationship. Big things happened, yes, but their dynamic was the driving force. But, where When Lloyds Collide started off relatively slow, that won’t hold true for Nightmare.

Trust me. Shit gets wild quick.

Just a quick note about prices: Yes, Nightmare is a bit more expensive than previous books. This is necessary in order for me to continue to afford doing what I’m doing. At this current time, I’ve been operating at a loss since I started, but with the release of book 4, I may have a chance to finally break even and begin recouping my initial spend.

For future books, I don’t plan on any major hikes, even when I reach the end. The benefit of self-publishing is that I can play around with the prices whenever I need to, until I find a nice sweet spot that works for me and my audience. I’m not here to extort money out of anyone – I just want to entertain you. And if you’re looking to get entertained, then buckle in, because shit’s gonna get wild real quick.

To those reading on Kindle Unlimited: I fully intend to release the entire series on the platform, unless it becomes financially unreliable. At this current time, it’s generating the majority of my revenue, so rest assured, I’m not likely to suddenly force you to purchase future books any time soon. Just do me a favour – if you liked the books enough that you sought out this website, tell your friends to check it out! Every page read adds to my ability to keep doing what I’m doing, and I appreciate every word you’ve read of my work.

For those who subscribed to my newsletter:

You’ve probably noticed you’ve never received a single thing from my end, other than the initial short story. Don’t worry, it’s not broken – I’m just terrible at finding time to do anything. I write consistently, but when it comes to marketing, I’m lazy AF, to my own detriment. If, in the meantime, you want consistent updates on future releases, make sure to follow me on Amazon. You can find the link below the book covers on any of my book pages.

I should probably hire someone to help me with this stuff.

Future Projects: Lloyd’s journey will continue, without a doubt. However, in my last blog, I teased “someone else’s story needs to be told.” Honestly, it’s a true statement, but I’ve hit a wall in that and can’t crack the ending, so it’s shelved indefinitely until I figure it out. If it never comes to light, there are some parts of it that I think are really fun and might make a good short story, so there’s always that option.

Anyway. Make sure to check out The Nightmare Before Lloyd – Pre-Order now available! I’m currently working away on the edits for book 5, and hoping to have it ready for my Beta readers in a month or two. I won’t tease when the release might be – the second I do that, I’ll miss it by 3 months – but I’m hoping it’ll be by the end of the year. Just, no promises.

Cheers.

Matt Armstrong
