The Spotlight falls on Miri

In the Miri of the Night is a bit of a change of pace from my usual writing. Not only does it not feature Lloyd, it’s also written in third person perspective.

I wrote this book to challenge myself and to give Miri her due. People keep telling me my female characters are well written (especially since I’m a dude), so I figured I’d put that to the test. Get inside the head of a lady and see what all the fuss is about.

Spoilers: It’s fucking terrifying.

If you haven’t noticed, Miri tends to vanish from every even-numbered book, and I’ve always felt a little bad about that. She’s a great character and deserves better—but there’s a reason for it. Lloyd can’t always have an aura-reading empath around while trying to figure out who’s naughty or nice. That’d make things way too easy. And if you’re up to date, you know I go out of my way to make his life difficult.

So, I wrote her a book.

I didn’t have a clear roadmap when I started, and this one took longer to write than any of the others—but it came together pretty damn well in the end. It gave me a chance to flesh out some side characters—people who might open up to Miri, but never to Lloyd. And then there’s the surprise character who kinda hijacked half the book… in the best possible way.

Yeah, that got your attention, didn’t it?

So go pre-order it already. But don’t read it until after you finish Lloyd Among Thieves. Seriously—there’s an order here. Respect the sacred timeline.

Speaking of…

Lloyd Among Thieves. Book 6. Book freaking six. I honestly love this one. Every time I go back to edit it, I find myself either wondering “how the hell did I come up with that?” or laughing at my own jokes (yes, I’m that guy).

This time around, Lloyd is completely out of his element. Cut off from literally everything. New setting. New rules. New chaos. It’s more grounded than Shadows of the Lloyd (which, let’s be honest, was batshit), but just as bonkers in its own way. If you’re a fan of Lloyd, this book will absolutely deliver.

So, what’s next?

I’m rapidly catching up to myself. I started writing In Like Lloyd in June 2022. Finished Book 7 (rough draft) by June 2023. Since then, I’ve written three more—Books 6 and 6.5 are dropping in May.

But writing takes longer now. I’ve built so many layers and threads that everything just takes more time. And the books are getting longer, too.

What does that mean? The release schedule will slow down. Hopefully just to two books a year. Barring a creative meltdown, I think I can manage that.

And lastly…

“How haven’t more people found this series?”

Because my marketing strategy is basically: run ads, hope for the best. I see so many authors grinding it out on social media, and honestly? I just don’t have the energy for it. And I’m not convinced it even works. Who goes to Twitter for book recs? (If it’s you—no offense. But also… really?)

People will find the series. More will come. The bigger it grows, the more I can invest in ads. Who knows? Maybe two years from now, Lloyd Gibson and the Noctis will be everywhere.

Wanna help? Tell your friends. Bring In Like Lloyd to your snooty book club. Watch Pamela and Angela squirm as you explain the subtle genius behind a man named Lloyd solving mysteries, getting stabbed a lot, and shit-talking his way through supernatural disasters. Then, when they think it’s all over, bam—hit them with A Matter of Lloyd and Death.

That’s word of mouth, right? Shoving a book down someone’s throat? I might need a fact checker.

Anyway.

Go pre-order Lloyd Among Thieves and In the Miri of the Night today. Available on Amazon, Kindle, and Kindle Unlimited.

K, bye.
